A Surprising Permanence of Old Motivations

چکیده
This is not a survey article. Rather it is a personal statement written for a lifelong friend and collaborator. Still it is an ambition of this article to trace some of the key moments of our development in the past 40 years. In doing so perhaps some evidence has arisen which otherwise seems to be obscured by the hectic day-to-day academic life. Thus the title. Supported by ITI and DIMATIA of Charles University Prague under grant 1M0021620808 This paper is based on the lecture by the author at the meeting in Victoria devoted to 60 birthday of P.Hell.

Permanence and global asymptotic stability of a delayed predator-prey model with Hassell-Varley type functional response
Here, a predator-prey model with Hassell-Varley type functional responses is studied. Some sufficient conditions are obtained for the permanence and global asymptotic stability of the system by using comparison theorem and constructing a suitable Lyapunov functional. Moreover, an example is illustrated to verify the results by simulation.
متن کاملPermanence and Uniformly Asymptotic Stability of Almost Periodic Positive Solutions for a Dynamic Commensalism Model on Time Scales
In this paper, we study dynamic commensalism model with nonmonotic functional response, density dependent birth rates on time scales and derive sufficient conditions for the permanence. We also establish the existence and uniform asymptotic stability of unique almost periodic positive solution of the model by using Lyapunov functional method.
متن کاملBreastfeeding motivation and Self-Determination Theory.
RATIONALE In the current social climate, breastfeeding is regarded as the "gold standard" of babies' nutrition and optimal mothering. It is not surprising, therefore, that the vast majority of contemporary women begin breastfeeding after they give birth. OBJECTIVE This paper presents two separate quantitative studies conducted in Israel which examined breastfeeding motivation and its associat...
متن کاملIntrinsic Motivations Drive Learning of Eye Movements: An Experiment with Human Adults
Intrinsic motivations drive the acquisition of knowledge and skills on the basis of novel or surprising stimuli or the pleasure to learn new skills. In so doing, they are different from extrinsic motivations that are mainly linked to drives that promote survival and reproduction. Intrinsic motivations have been implicitly exploited in several psychological experiments but, due to the lack of pr...
متن کاملIndividual differences in object permanence performance at 8 months: locomotor experience and brain electrical activity.
This work was designed to investigate individual differences in hands-and-knees crawling and frontal brain electrical activity with respect to object permanence performance in 76 eight-month-old infants. Four groups of infants (one prelocomotor and 3 with varying lengths of hands-and-knees crawling experience) were tested on an object permanence scale in a research design similar to that used b...
